I’ve recently discovered Healdsburg, and this lovely little town offers so much in the way of food and wine that I don’t think I’ll ever get to sample it all.

Next stop is the Dry CreekOlive Company, where you’ll tour the press and learn about the intensive process for making artisan olive oil.  You’ll taste the company’s olive oils and vinegars, selecting the favorite for lunch.

Geyserville Tasting Room

If you really love wine, you owe it to yourself to visit Williamson Wines tasting room in Healdsburg.  Bill and Dawn Williamson are two Aussies, who moved to San Francisco in 1980 to participate in the Silicon Valley technology revolution.  They started a successful software company, and when they sold it some years later, they moved to their hone on a vineyard in Dry Creek Valley to grow Bordeaux style grapes.

I can’t say enough about this tasting room.  The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and the delicious food paired with the incredible wines, each one more delicious than the last, made for a fantastic wine-tasting experience.  The wines are served in Reidel stemware and the bite-size food samples help you appreciate the wines.  Whatever you do, be sure you don’t leave without tasting the brownies.  Oh, did I mention that the food and wine tasting is complimentary?!

It was so wonderful that our wine-tasting club reserved the larger tasting room in Geyserville for a special wine and food event.

The tasting room is open reservations are suggested, although not required.

Raymond Burr Vineyards was started by Raymond Burr and Robert Benevides, both of whom had met as actors in the 1950s on the “Perry Mason” TV show.  Both men shared an interest in, and knowledge of orchids, and at first they pursued that passion.  They turned that avocation for the cultivation and hybridization of orchids into a commercial venture — Sea God Nurseries, responsible for more than 2,000 new orchids added to the worldwide catalogue.  (Sea God Nurseries now operates only as a part of the vineyards, but there are still a thousand orchid varieties and a tour can be arranged by appointment.) 

It’s a great place to visit and enjoy their complimentary tasting in their Tasting Room.  (For groups larger than 8 there is a $5 tasting fee, but even that will be applied to your wine purchase.)

Don Landis, who has been curing olives in Sonoma County for 12 years had done a lot of research and will share his passion for curing with you.  You will learn about the history of the Olive, the history of the Olive in California and a description of the Greek Style of Olive Curing.  Olive tasting, wine tasting and wind discounts will be offered.  Best of all, this workshop is FREE!
